Partial Solar Eclipse – June 2021

As so often seems to happen with celestial events, it was cloudy here today, but the clouds did break momentarily and I managed to take this photograph of the sun – not taken at the time of the maximum (for us this would have been around 20% of the sun covered), but not too long afterwards – the ‘bite’ is clearly seen!

I used an ND10 filter – normally used to take long exposure photographs (plenty of examples on this site – like North Greenwich View, though this was with an ND6 filter) – great for making waterfalls blur! Even with the ND10 filter, the exposure time was 1/4000s – I should have stopped it down a bit, but time was against me – the aperture is set electronically on this lens – still, it worked fine!
