Here is The Royal Scot, at speed, on the North Cotswold line from Oxford to Worcester – a trip from London Paddington called The Cotswold Venturer – this train was supposed to have been pulled by The Flying Scotsman, but had to be substituted due to mechanical problems:
Flying Scotsman update:
On 18 October during a trip from York to Peterborough, one of Flying Scotsman’s driving axle boxes was found to be running warm.
As a precautionary measure, the engine was diverted to Nene Valley Railway, where it underwent a full engineering inspection over the weekend. Following this inspection, both of Flying Scotsman’s driving axle boxes are now being remetalled. Unfortunately, it is not possible to complete these repairs in time for the next trip scheduled to run on Saturday 28 October from London to Worcester.
In fact, as I write this, I see that the website has now been updated for the next trip in February 2018 – I will be adding this to my diary!
Still, it was a magnificent sight to see a steam locomotive going full pelt on this line as they would have done in years gone by.
The pictures were taken at an animal crossing by the road bridge near to Lyneham, Oxfordshire.
