As so often seems to happen with celestial events, it was cloudy here today, but the clouds did break momentarily and I managed to take this photograph of the sun – not taken at the time of the maximum (for us this would have been around 20% of the sun covered), but not too long…

This photograph is of the last partial eclipse (2011) that was (just!) visible from the UK – this was taken from Farringdon Folly, West Oxfordshire (after I had spent a few minutes driving around trying to find somewhere suitable to get a decent chance of getting a clear shot) – fortunately, the clouds did break…
